UVa obtained the region’s only Primary Stroke Center Certification from The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) following an on-site review in early 2005. In 2007 US News & World Report ranked UVa as one of the top centers for neurosurgery and neurology.
UVa is recognized as a benchmark institution for stroke by the University Hospital Consortium an alliance of academic health centers committed to improving standards of clinical care for patients. UVa is also an international leader in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
