SOM Faculty Leadership Program Details

Initiated in 1994, the School of Medicine's Faculty Development Program is designed to support and provide new faculty with the skills necessary to facilitate a successful career in academic medicine and as members of the community of the University of Virginia Health System. It is our goal to enhance faculty competencies and to instill in our faculty a sense of community and shared values through this program. The programs and offerings for Faculty Development are innovated annually, with each successive program building upon the identified strengths, successes, and the encouraged feedback of participants, department chairs, center directors, our Faculty Development Advisory Committee, program evaluations, and the Dean.

New Faculty Orientation and the Mentoring Program

The New Faculty Orientation Programs of the SOM Faculty Development Office are designed to provide resources for your career development and your personal learning advancement. We offer many opportunities and services to guide and support you on your successful journey with the UVA School of Medicine. During your first year, we recommend that all new faculty attend each of our  Orientation Sessions.

In addition to the Orientation Sesions, each new faculty member will work with his/her department chair to select an initial mentor. Visit the Faculty Mentoring Program  website for details.
